The White Squirrel Classic
 

The White Squirrel Cycling Classic is a classic fall spinner during fabulous fall leaf season. Starting and ending in downtown Brevard, NC, riders will head out on flat valley roads near the base of Pisgah National Forest. They’ll meander along the French Broad River before heading into Henderson County and then back to downtown Brevard. These routes will lead riders on a fully guided and supported tour of some Transylvania County’s finest roads! Chip timing with King of the Mountain segments, fully supported rest stops with medical and mechanical, and SAG wagons.


 
October 4th
Tour de Pumpkin
 
The Rutherford Outdoor Coalition sponsors the annual Tour de Pumpkin rides to support the Rutherford Housing Partnership. The rides consist of a 50k and 100k loop. For more information visit their page here.

 
October 4th Barnaroo CX

As part of the Asheville area Barnaroo music festival, there will be a cyclocross race  during the event. So while rock, hard rock, and funk music is going on – all to raise money for the Asheville Music School – you can be rocking your dismounts, or getting rocked, while rowdy, music-crazed, beer-fueled fans scream and cheer you on. It sounds like euro-style ‘cross race atmosphere to me!

The race is October 4th with categories C, B, and A at 1:00p, 2:00p, and 3:00p, respectively. VeloSports Racing sponsors Hi-Wire Brewing and Youngblood Bicycles are part of this as well. We hope to see the rest of you there. Download the race flier here

Bulldog Bicycle Bonanza

FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The 2nd annual edition of the Bulldog Bike Bonanza will feature carnival-style booths on the Main Quad where participants will hang the opportunity to play games, learn about bike safety and maintenance, and win raffle prizes!

Full schedule of events:

11:30am - 2:00pm Representatives from local bike shops and organizations on UNCA Quad. Raffle drawing at 1:30!

3:45 pm: Greenfest Group Bike Ride. All members of the UNCA community are invited to join us for this one hour, slow and easy "rolling social" designed by Asheville Bikes. We will begin at the bulldog statue in front of the Sherrill Center and then ride around the neighborhood, ending at the new section of the Reed Creek Greenway just in time for the official dedication.

5pm: Reed Creek Greenway Dedication. Celebrate the completion of the newest section of the Reed Creek Greenway, off Catawba Street.

October 9th Asheville Rides
Social Leisure Ride Through Downtown Asheville
 
Asheville Rides are social, easy paced rolling tours designed to showcase interesting aspects of the city with interesting people. Each ride begins at the Asheville Chamber parking lot on the second Thursday of each month starting in May. Asheville Rides are a great way to take in the city and wind down from the work day. At Asheville Rides, we mix business with leisure.

Asheville Rides meanders through neighborhoods, parks, greenways, and business districts with city and Asheville neighborhoods. We will ride by and visit chamber businesses, but mostly have fun. All rides start and end at the Asheville Chamber parking lot. Everyone is invited. Bring the entire family. Rides are the second Thursday each month. We gather at 5:30PM, ride at 6:00PM.

Red Bull Dreamline
 

Conceived by pro rider Anthony Napolitan with a course brought to life by master builder Adam Aloise, Red Bull Dreamline showcases the best of what BMX dirt competition can be.

For 2014, Red Bull Dreamline will take place on Oskar Blues REEB Ranch near Asheville, North Carolina. The most talented and progressive riders in the world will once again push their limits on jumps designed and built to showcase them at their best.

North Carolina Bicycle Summit
 

The 2014 NC Bike Summit promises to be packed full of information useful to  bicycle advocates, transportation planners, business owners, elected officials, tactical urbanists, public health practitioners, and livability and sustainability professionals.  Experts from across the state and beyond will be on hand to share their knowledge and experience.

Cycle to Farm Sandy Mush
 

As with all Cycle to Farm® events, the Sandy Mush location will provide participants with a tour of local farms by bicycle, stunning scenery of this beautiful area, tasty food samples crafted by the farms, and products for sale at every farm (including at the Finish, Addison Farms Vineyard).   And, of course, the Fabulous After Party.

Inagural Blue Ridge Pumptrack Challenge at Industry Nine
 
The Inaugural Blue Ridge Pumptrack Challenge series is a novel MTB/BMX points-based competition located at three venues in the heart of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Presented by Billy Goat Bikes, the series opens October 12th at Industry 9 Componentry. Round 2 heads to The Bike Farm at Oskar Blues REEB Ranch, and Kolo Bike Park hosts the series finale on October 26th.

At each round, a downhill-mountain-bike and motocross inspired competition format offers riders timed qualifying laps and transfer motos plus a LCQ, leading to a main event. Riders also earn points during BIG AIR and best trick competitions. All riders compete one-at-a-time, and accumulate points at each round to determine series overall podium finishers. This is a fun and festive format sure to challenge riders’ skills, fitness and creativity!

Tour de Leaves
 

Tour de Leaves was started in 1998 by the Henderson County Family YMCA. During the course of the first seven years, the venue for the start of the Tour changed from year to year. In 2006, Harmon Field became the venue for the Tour, and it has remained at this location since that year. At the end of the event in October 2008, the YMCA passed the Tour to Friends of Harmon Field who hosted it for four years.

The course routes will remain the same, and the event will continue to be held on the third Saturday of October each year. Three routes are offered: (1) Tour de Leaves Grande, 66.3 miles; (2) Tour de Leaves Lite, 31.9; (3) Tour de Leaves Family Fun Route, 4 and 8 miles.

Pisgah Double Dare
 
Teams of two riders will race to reach up to 10 checkpoints per day, two days ina row. Race begins at Noon Saturday and the first cut-off is midnight. Race resumes at 6AM Sunday and the final cutoff is 6PM. To finish the race teams must simply participate in the time trial on Sunday at 6AM and reach the mandatory checkpoint each day. Teams in the running should expect 80 miles and 12,000 feet of climbing each day.

Hands-On Bike Maintenance: Drive Train
Tuesday, October 21., 6 PM – 8 PM
$20 REI members/$40 non-members

Join our certified bike techs to learn about what makes up your drive train and some tips on general maintenance. We will cover how to inspect, adjust and maintain your front and rear derailleurs and other components of your bike's drive train. BYOB - bring your own bike - bikes must be clean and in good working order to be used during the class. Register early, class size is limited. Replacement parts not included in class fee. Map and Compass Navigation Basics
Saturday, October 25, 10 AM – 12:30 PM
$30 REI members/$50 non-members

In this in-store class you'll learn the parts of a compass, how to read a topographic map and how to use them in tandem. You'll learn how to pinpoint your location through triangulation and then navigate to new locations by following a bearing. You'll also learn how plan routes using a topographic map. This is a hands-on in-store class with some lecture components. Depending on weather and location, this class may include a portion held outdoors. Registration required.

We will focus on navigating the camera's user interface, understanding the video resolution options, additional video and image capture settings, accessories and mounts to help you use the camera to capture life's most exciting moments. Asheville on Bikes Pumpkin Peddler
October means only one thing to hundreds of Ashevillians: the return of the Pumpkin Pedaller, a much-loved, much-anticipated annual event organized by Asheville on Bikes. High-spirited, costumed cyclists will ride this year’s 10-mile route on Saturday, November 1st, beginning at Asheville City Hall and culminating at The Wedge Brewery.
